DreamWorks to remake Hitchcock’s Rebecca

It’s weird that I should see a link to this article right now since this evening I watched Hitch’s Rebecca on blu-ray. I’ve seen it countless times and I love it for it’s quietly sinister feel and Hitchcock’s amazing use of shadows and light.

The article says the screenwriter of the new film is going to go back to the original Daphne du Maurier novel. Maybe in this day and age they won’t have to “Hollywoodize” the ending! I’ve always preferred the ending in the book to Hitchcock’s version. Although Hitchcock’s version was really David O. Selznick’s version. I love the novel and if a screenwriter can be truer to it than Hitchcock’s film was, I’m all for it. I’m not a crazy purist who believes things can’t be remade.
